Proven reliability and economy led The Malcom Group back to Mercedes-Benz Dealer Western Commercial for the latest additions to its fleet.

Based in Linwood, Renfrewshire, the operator is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of logistics, construction and maintenance services. More than half of its 175 vehicles now wear three-pointed stars.

All three models in the Mercedes-Benz Vans range are represented within the new consignment of 28 vehicles, which includes 10 highly fuel-efficient Long-bodied Citan 109 CDIs.

Launched in 2013, the Citan is the smallest van ever built by Mercedes-Benz – its introduction means The Malcolm Group can now source vehicles in this class from its preferred supplier.

Malcolm’s Linwood Centre Manager George Scott explained: “Previously our vehicles of this size came from another manufacturer, but we now have 20 Citans on the road, as well as another four on order.”

The Citan 109 CDI is powered by an advanced 90 hp engine capable of returning up to 65.7 mpg. Panel van versions also come in Compact and Extra-long lengths, while the Citan is also available as a Crew van with second row of seats, and a passenger-carrying Tourer.

“The Citan has proved far superior to our previous small vans when it comes to reliability, as well as being a lot more economical,” confirmed Mr Scott.

Western Commercial, which represents Mercedes-Benz in Central Scotland, has also just delivered 10 mid-sized Vito 111 CDI models and eight 3.5-tonne Sprinter 314 CDIs – five are chassis cabs with tipping bodies, the other three panel vans.

The Malcolm Group’s vehicles wear differently coloured versions of the same distinctive livery, denoting which of its divisions they work for – blue and red for Logistics, yellow and green for Construction.

The Logistics vans are used primarily by technicians based at the company’s nationwide network of workshops, who maintain and repair its fleet of more than 500 trucks. Some of the Construction vehicles ferry crews and tools to work sites, while others are assigned to mobile engineers who look after heavy plant.

“Our Mercedes-Benz vans have proved themselves over many years to be well-built, dependable and cost-effective to operate – they’re real workhorses,” continued Mr Scott.

“We’ve built up an excellent relationship with Western Commercial too. Its Sales Executive David McColm knows our business well and is very attentive, while Service Manager Brian Cooper and his Glasgow workshop team are always flexible and do their best to keep our business moving.”

Like all Mercedes-Benz vans the latest additions to the Malcolm Group fleet are backed by three-year, unlimited mileage warranties. Provided they continue to be maintained within the manufacturer’s official Dealer Network, they will also benefit from MobiloVan cover which includes free roadside assistance for up to 30 years.
