Leading waste firm Biffa has launched its new emergency waste removal service with a quartet of Mercedes-Benz vans.

Three Long-bodied Sprinter 313 CDIs – soon to be joined by a further five, already ordered – wear eye-catching, all-over vinyl wrap liveries promoting the new Biffa OneCall service. The fourth is a Sprinter 313 CDI with cage bodywork by Tipmaster, of London.

They arrived along with 41 other vehicles, a combination of Sprinter, New Vito and Citan models, via the Wellingborough branch of Dealer Intercounty Truck & Van.

Most of the new vans have been allocated to mobile engineers and workshop managers who maintain Biffa’s national fleet of refuse collection vehicles and other trucks.

Biffa OneCall offers emergency waste removal from a single point of contact, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and provides response times starting from as little as three hours.

“It’s a premium service which supports businesses around the clock,” said Supply Chain & Logistics Category Manager Will Gallagher. “We could be dealing with anything from fly-tipped waste, to fire or flood damage, freezer breakdowns, pollution spills or even asbestos removal.”

Mr Gallagher continued: “The crucial aspect of the service is the speed of response, following just one call, so reliability was the paramount factor when we came to choose vehicles.

“We’ve operated Mercedes-Benz vans for many years and know from this experience that they won’t let us down. The Sprinters also look extremely smart in our new livery and if Biffa OneCall takes off as quickly as we believe it will, we’ll soon be adding more to the fleet.”

In addition to the four Biffa OneCall vehicles, Intercounty Truck & Van has supplied its high-profile customer with 15 Medium-length Sprinter 313 CDIs, six New Vito 111 CDI crew vans, four New Vito 111 CDI vans, 10 Citan 111 CDI Longs and six Extra-long Citan 111 CDI crew vans with second rows of seats, allowing each to carry a driver and up to four passengers.

Mr Gallagher explained: “The fact that we can now buy Mercedes-Benz vans in three different sizes is very helpful. Our mobile engineers are called into action on a variety of jobs so it’s a big advantage having the right vehicle for each task.

“The Sprinter, New Vito and Citan are all comfortable, safe and well-liked by those who drive them, while we are also very happy with the service we receive from the Dealer and the manufacturer.”

He added: “Mercedes-Benz Vans’ Strategic Account Manager Carol Kirk put together a very attractive package while Intercounty’s Fleet Van Sales Manager Mark Stockham held our hand throughout the specification and delivery process, even organising the application of the livery for us. Things couldn’t have gone more smoothly.”
