In an important conquest deal, leading Scottish demolition expert, MacWilliam Demolition Ltd, has switched its allegiance from MAN in favour of the new Renault Trucks’ Range K. The 32 tonne Renault Range K430 8×4 went on the road at the end of 2014 and is the first Renault Trucks’ HGV to join the MAN-dominated fleet. The Range K is fitted with a Hyva Hookloader (Hyvalift 32.5600 c/w Hyva Autosheet system) and has been wrapped in MacWilliam Demolition Ltd’s livery with a striking red cab.
The new Range K was immediately put to the test at the coalface, being deployed in demolition work across Scotland on the rugged terrain of construction and landfill sites. Explaining why he opted for the new Renault Range K, Managing Director of MacWilliam Demolition Ltd and Chairman of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors for Scotland and NI, Craig MacWilliam, said, “Due to the growth in our business, I decided to invest in an additional vehicle that we own rather than paying money to a plant hire company. I then got our driver to test-drive the Renault and a DAF and we also researched and inspected a MAN, Volvo and Mercedes and we then selected the best overall. The Renault Range K stood out straight away and the driver was immediately smitten. One thing that really appealed was the smooth acceleration and responsiveness at, for example, roundabouts; our driver said it was more like the gentle acceleration of a car than a lorry. He also liked the additional space inside, which is uncommon in a day cab, and he was delighted that there was enough room for his lunch and sports bag behind the seat! In addition we felt it had a robust chassis and good ground clearance for off-road.”
Craig continued, “Crucially I felt that the Range K offered the best value overall, it was a great performer and came from a highly reputable manufacturer. The new vehicle has been on the road for a few weeks and we already know we made the right decision. We are noticing better acceleration under load and, whilst we are still calculating the exact fuel consumption figures, we are seeing an improvement compared with the previous vehicles.”
