TIP, the leading provider of trailer and truck hire, maintenance and associated services, has announced that its Mechanic Academy has officially been approved for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) accreditation by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE).
This underscores TIP’s commitment to advancing industry skills and ensures the highest professional standards in trailer maintenance. The accreditation takes effect immediately, meaning that students currently enrolled in the trailer mechanic training programme will receive CPD certification upon completion of their studies.
CPD accreditation is widely recognised across industries and is given to a course or training programme that demonstrates professional excellence for learning. It encourages individuals to continuously develop their skills, stay up to date with industry advancements and maintain high professional standards.
For students at the TIP Mechanic Academy, this certification enhances their credibility and provides them with a solid base to build their careers. It also equips them with the necessary tools to adapt to changes within the industry, supporting long-term career progression. At the same time, TIP benefits from a workforce that meets industry-recognised qualifications and maintains a commitment to ongoing professional development.
The TIP Mechanic Academy was launched in the Autumn of 2023, not only to attract new talent to the trailer mechanic industry, but in response to the fact that there was no formal training course or qualification that was dedicated to trailer mechanic skills.
Last spring, 10 students graduated from the Academy and have gone on to become valuable members of TIP’s trailer mechanic team, whilst continuing their training at TIP’s workshops across the UK.
In recognition of TIP’s high standards, its workshop network received IRTE Workshop Accreditation last year, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining the highest industry standards in vehicle maintenance and repair. Now, with CPD accreditation added to the Mechanic Academy, TIP further strengthens its alignment with the SOE, demonstrating a clear dedication to professional development and technical excellence.
Mark Carlin, TIP Fleet & Engineering Director, said: “Receiving CPD accreditation from the SOE is a significant achievement for the TIP Mechanic Academy. It reflects our dedication to upskilling the next generation of trailer mechanics, ensuring they meet the highest standards. We are excited to continue growing our programme and equipping our students with the knowledge and expertise needed for long-term success.”
Robin Bates, SOE Membership and Professional Standards Lead, said: “This approval highlights TIP Group’s commitment to providing high-quality professional development that aligns with industry standards. The TIP Mechanic Academy is a well-structured training initiative that delivers essential learning outcomes in a safe and controlled environment. We’ve had the opportunity to observe the classes and interact with those involved, and it’s clear that the programme effectively builds technical skills and lays a solid foundation for career progression. The CPD approval further confirms that the TIP Mechanic Academy is an exemplary programme, combining innovation with industry needs through hands-on training, mentorship, and comprehensive manuals that create a clear pathway for individuals to develop into skilled mechanics.”
