NP Structures, a market-leading manufacturer of polytunnels and PVC clad structures, was seeking a specially designed trailer to improve the load safety and efficiency of their operation. Their first choice was Cartwright, who design bespoke trailers around the operations of businesses, through a consultative design process.
The Colne-based firm has built up an unrivalled reputation for the design and manufacture of its film-clad structures serving a wide range of uses including horticultural and industrial applications.
The trailers are required to access narrow lanes and single-track roads, especially to nurseries and farms. Cartwright designed one of the trailers with a short wheelbase, resulting in a much improved turning circle as well as other features useful in their day-to-day operation including a forklift mounting kit on the rear of the trailer and removable ballast weights for when the trailer isn’t carrying a forklift.
Managing Director Ian Wolfenden commented: “We are very specialised in what we deliver and required a specialised piece of kit. Our loads are full of ugly freight with complex shapes and sizes which are difficult to safely restrain on a normal flat trailer and we needed to stack the loads higher to improve our efficiencies.
“Working with Cartwright’s Special Build Manager Clive Dingle Cartwright designed two trailers – a 13m and a short 10m with unique racking systems and removable ballast weights. The design enables us to load in layers with each layer being secured by the retaining posts and the removable ballast weight reduces the trailer weight by 970Kg when the piggy back forklift isn’t required.
“We wanted to find a manufacturer who could work with us to create a specially designed trailer and Cartwright were the best option not only on price but technical specification.
“The major issue for us was the safety factor in containing the loads and ensuring they were safely stacked. With these new Cartwright trailers our deliveries are now a lot safer than previously and at last I can sleep at night not worrying about load safety.”
Both specially designed Cartwright trailers have now been built and are delivering NP Structures products across the UK. Managing Director Ian Wolfenden is delighted with the new trailers.
