Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a SATS company, has taken delivery of 29 new SDC rollerbed trailers from Asset Alliance Group to bolster its freight handling operations.
Supplied on a five-year contract hire agreement, the new arrivals join the firm as part of a fleet renewal programme and will be based at its operating centre at Heathrow Airport.
Paired with the company’s Renault tractor units, the trailers will be used for air freight forwarding on road feeder service routes to airports across the UK. They join a mixed commercial vehicle fleet at WFS, including 45 trucks and 48 trailers, and will help manage the company’s rapid growth over the past two years.
Phil Huntington, UK Transport Manager at WFS, says: “SDC trailers are robust and reliable and exactly what we need to support our growing transport operation in the UK and Ireland. We now have a presence at every UK airport and run nightly road transport services as far south as Gatwick Airport and as far north as Aberdeen to provide the widest possible distribution network for our customers.”
Heathrow is one of WFS’ biggest international cargo stations, with seven facilities handling more than 350,000 tonnes a year for 14 global airlines, managing over 17,500 flights annually. WFS last year increased its cargo handling capacity at the UK’s largest airport with an additional warehouse facility to manage new airline contracts and an increase in volume.
Huntington was pleased with the service from Asset Alliance Group after the commercial vehicle experts secured an excellent deal for his business.
“We have a strong relationship with the team at Asset Alliance Group. With these SDC trailers, they offered the perfect solution to ensure we maintain our high level of customer service to the airlines with whom we are contracted,” he adds.
WFS, a SATS company, is the world’s largest air cargo logistics provider and one of the leading providers of ground handling services. As a combined company, SATS and WFS create an Americas-Europe-Middle East-APAC network.
