Tipton-based logistics company Active Carriers has invested in new facilities and equipment to meet the growing demand for its freight services in the West Midlands.

The company, which is part of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network, has invested £250,000 in its site at Coneygre Industrial Estate. The investment has extended its warehousing space with a new 10,000 sq ft facility to enable pallets to be processed for distribution into the UK and throughout Europe. The company has also expanded its fleet with the addition of a new double deck trailer for trunking and an 18 tonne rigid truck for collections and deliveries.

This growth is matched by the significant expansion of Palletways’ UK and international network and is expected to see new jobs created at Active Carriers’ Tipton site.

Stewart Pitt, General Manager at Active Carriers, said: “This major investment will enable us to meet the ever increasing demand for our logistics services and to deliver goods as well as customer service to the highest standards possible.

“The expansion is part of our five year growth plan to provide the best services in the industry in our area and undoubtedly symbolises our commitment to this fast growing region.”

Active Carriers employs 42 staff and has been part of the Palletways network since 1994 which has enabled the company to grow its services nationally as well as into Europe.

Palletways consists of 300 depots across Europe, of which more than 100 are in the UK. The company’s distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies, including Active Carriers, who share each other’s resources to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before. The Group recently announced a 35% growth in pan-European volumes handled, a figure which is expected to rise to 50% in the next year.
