Cambridgeshire tanker and haulage specialist Turners (Soham) Ltd. has taken delivery of its 1,000th lightweight ‘FTP’ 6×2 mid-lift tractor from DAF Trucks. Vehicle number 1,000 is a New Generation DAF XF450 FTP, and part of Turners’ latest order for 69 DAF XF tractor units.
The trucks add to the East of England-based company’s growing fleet of over 2,000 vehicles specialising in temperature control, tanker operations, storage, warehousing and container distribution.
Turners, the UK’s largest privately-owned logistics company, maintains its position as the world’s largest operator of DAF’s lightweight FTP 6×2 mid-lift tractor unit with over 500 currently operating in the fleet. The latest intake was delivered by Cambridgeshire- and Suffolk-based family-owned DAF Dealer, Chassis Cab. Turners was also part of the New Generation DAF pre-production field test programme, delivering crucial operational feedback prior to the roll-out of DAF’s new heavy duty truck range – voted International Truck of the Year 2022.
The DAF MultiSupport Repair & Maintenance package has, the company reports, always been a key factor in Turners’ decision to remain with the DAF marque.
Tim King, Group Fleet Engineer at Turners (Soham) Ltd., said:
“We are very well acquainted with DAF’s FTP model. It’s the best lightweight six-wheeler on the market; maximising our payload potential. It’s very reliable and our drivers have always been more than pleased with the XF cab. The latest New Generation XF cab has proved a big hit and it’s certainly a step-change over the previous model. While the product is well proven, it is DAF’s MultiSupport Repair & Maintenance package and aftersales dealer support which has been the ultimate key to our successful long-term relationship with the DAF brand.”
Turners’ New Generation DAF XF 450 FTG 6×2 tractor is powered by the 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 rated at 450hp, and with 2350 Nm of torque available from 900 rpm. The truck is equipped with the DAF Digital Vision System, passenger-side kerb view window and foldable passenger seat which, together with the larger glass area and lower belt-line of the New Generation DAF, enables the XF to achieve a 3-Star Direct Vision Standard rating for operating in London.
