Behind every great music gig or touring play is a fleet of trucks that gets everything where it needs to go. Taking a starring role on the Southern Van Lines fleet are a pair of IVECO S-Way 490 (AS440S49T/FP LT) low-chassis trucks tasked with travelling across Europe, to keep the show on the road.
From Milan to Monaco, these IVECO S-Way twins help transport the essential staging and equipment for premier touring events in the music and theatre showbusiness. Each IVECO S-Way was ordered in a low chassis configuration, to enable it to tow a 4-metre-high mega trailer across the continent.
Finished in a distinctive custom blue shade, these IVECO S-Way 490 trucks feature a Cursor 13 engine designed to balance performance with excellent real-world economy. Both vehicles run on HVO diesel, an advanced renewable biofuel, making the 100,000km covered annually by each IVECO as ecological as possible without sacrificing traditional diesel practicality.
Charles Colley, Director of Southern Van Lines said: “We previously didn’t run IVECOs on our fleet, but after testing the IVECO S-Way, it impressed us all. In fact, some of our drivers are now IVECO converts, preferring these trucks to other brands they used to drive. This pair are great on fuel and Acorn Trucks has provided good service.”
With both trucks regularly traveling cross-continent, cab comfort was a serious consideration. The IVECO S-Way provides drivers with amongst best-in-class interior space, with exceptional levels of storage and are equipped with a fridge and microwave, as well as comfort enhancing features such as bunk curtains, door blinds, and an automatic air conditioner with parking cooler that’s able to function independently of the engine to help cope with Mediterranean temperatures

Both vehicles are operated on a 5-year R&M package that enables operators to make the ongoing repairs and maintenance of trucks a predictable fixed cost.
