Leading manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus UK is supplying vehicle recovery specialist Simon Chance with his first brand new recovery truck.

Simon, who along with wife Karen, operates Kidderminster based AVS Recovery, has opted for a 12-tonne MAN TGL chassis with a slide bed body supplied by Roger Dyson of Droitwich.

Simon explained: “I worked for AVS Recovery for a number of years, and then about eight years ago the opportunity came up to buy the company.

“It was a huge leap for my wife and I, but we did it and we have spent the last eight years or so building it up.

“This is the first brand new vehicle we have bought of this size, but we are impressed with the MANs. I know a number of people in the haulage industry who run them and they are all impressed by their economy and reliability and unlike some manufacturers MAN does not ask for thousands of pounds for a warranty before you even purchase a vehicle.

“This is a major investment for our company. When I took over there were just four of us and now that is up to 12, it’s a 24-hour operation and we are contracted to work for a dozen major insurance companies.

“I want the vehicle to look right and create the right impression for our business and I really like the MAN. In addition I have spent a few thousand on lights and horns, just because I love my vehicles!”

The TGL will be added to the 11-strong fleet operated by AVS Recovery.

Simon added: “We are operating the old fleet, but we have done them up and brought them up to standard, but this will be the showpiece of the fleet.

“I intend to show it at events all over the place. I have a friend who has a Transit van to show too, so we will load the Transit on the back and we will be exhibiting them to hundreds of vehicle enthusiasts.”

Tony Rayner, for Roger Dyson, added: “Simon has worked incredibly hard building his business up and deserves to do well with it. We were delighted to be able to help create this personalised body for him and look forward to seeing it out on the road whether it’s working or at exhibitions.”

Tony Bobs, of MAN, added: “Simon has clearly done a great deal of research before committing to buying the brand new recovery vehicle for his business. MAN is delighted to have met his requirements and that he is to be such an enthusiastic ambassador for our brand.”
