Timber flooring and surfaces specialist Havwoods has placed a new 32-tonne Volvo FH 8×2 Tridem Globetrotter XL rigid into service to help the business keep pace with its growing demand.

Supplied by Karl Davies, Customer Solutions Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the vehicle – replacing a similar unit supplied by a competitor manufacturer in the customer’s fleet – has been fitted with double-deck curtainside Fred Smith & Sons bodywork, plus a Moffett truck-mounted forklift, for efficient loading and offloading. The truck also features a heavy-duty 10-tonne front axle.

Mick Leech, Head of UK Operations, Havwoods, says: “By investing in high-spec vehicles like our new Volvo we continue to set the standard for excellence in our logistics and supply chain, ensuring that our luxury wood flooring and surfaces arrive in perfect condition – just as our clients would expect.

“The Volvo engine offers a balance of power and fuel economy, ensuring we can maximise efficiency on our long-haul journeys while keeping running costs down. The 8×2 Tridem axle configuration – with lifting pusher and tag axles – also offers excellent manoeuvrability and load stability, ensuring safer and more efficient deliveries.”

Havwood’s new three-star DVS-compliant arrival is powered by a Euro-6 D13K Step E engine, producing 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,500 Nm. This is paired with Volvo’s automated 12-speed I-Shift transmission, which constantly evaluates information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand to enable perfectly timed gearshifts.

For ultimate comfort, Havwoods has opted to spec out the Globetrotter XL cab – which features all black interior – with Volvo’s top-of-the-line Drive++ package. This adds fully electronic air conditioning with carbon filter and sun, mist and air quality sensors, dual armrests, leather upholstery and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt.

Volvo’s Media package with navigation brings DAB radio and a dynamic 12-inch high-resolution instrument cluster with an accompanying secondary colour information display to the spec, completing a comfortable and premium quality driving environment.

The rigid also features full air suspension and Volvo Dynamic Steering – an ultra-responsive steering system designed to lessen driver steering force by up to 85%, helping increase road safety and reduce driver fatigue.

“The truck’s well-designed interior makes for a more comfortable working environment for our driver,” adds Leech.

Finished in sleek black livery, the new Volvo embodies the brand’s commitment to excellence and attention to detail. The factory-enhanced paintwork, paired with Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels, delivers a striking bold exterior that reflects the premium quality and craftsmanship at the heart of Havwoods’ offering.

Operating from Havwoods’ UK headquarters in Carnforth, Lancashire the vehicle will cover up to 150,000 km annually, delivering high-quality wooden flooring and surfaces from its state-of-the-art distribution centre to clients across the UK.
