All Metal Services Ltd, a stockholder of raw materials and processor to the aerospace and defence industries, has chosen Ryder for a significant revamp of its truck fleet, taking on 10 new DAF rigid trucks and an Alloy Bodies drawbar trailer.

With locations in London, Birmingham, Bolton, Bristol and Belfast, All Metal Services Ltd has until now owned and operated a 10-strong fleet of used rigids with first registrations varying from 2013 back to 2003.

All Metal has taken on:

  • a DAF LF210 12t curtainsider;
  • three DAF CF260 18t curtainsiders;
  • a DAF LF230 18t dropside;
  • three DAF CF310 26t curtainsiders;
  • two DAF CF410 26t curtainsiders; and

  • an Alloy Bodies tandem axle drawbar trailer.

All the vehicles are supplied on a five-year contract hire and maintenance agreement. Ryder is also handling the disposal of All Metal’s existing used fleet.

Tasked with a thorough review of All Metal’s operation, Group Transport Manager Steve Gillick needed to establish not only what the best procurement model was, but also whether All Metal had the right vehicles for its current and future needs and whether it needed to continue to use third party carriers on some routes and contracts.

He explained: “Ryder is a supplier to our sister company Metalweb, which is how I came across them. Negotiations were thorough, but Ryder assisted in the operational review really well.

“For example, we questioned whether we needed an artic as we move large volumes for some customers and move material between our Bolton and Birmingham sites at night. Up until now, Birmingham had a 7.5-tonner, an 18-tonner and 26-tonner, but thanks to Ryder, that location will now run an 18-tonner and two 26-tonners.

“We also took the opportunity to spec the vehicles to help us with compliance: each of them is fitted with Microlise telematics (covering daily drivers’ checks, vehicle tracking and fuel consumption monitoring), a full camera system and an on-board weighing system.”

John Murray, Ryder Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We’re delighted to have assisted All Metal Services in their transport operations review. This highlights the quality of our technical expertise and how we strive to ensure our customers’ operations are as efficient as possible, having the right trucks for the job.”
