DAF Trucks is raising the efficiency bar at RTX with its XG 450 ‘FTG’ 6×2 three-axle ‘Efficiency Champion’ tractor – a special edition model that showcases the company’s most fuel-efficient specifications.
Efficiency Champion models are available in DAF’s XD, XF, XG and XG+ ranges, with the XF 450 tractor unit winning economy tests and earning prestigious sustainability awards in influential German trade press titles, including VerkehrsRundschau, Trucker, Truck & Trailer Welt and Transport.
Numerous driveline and cab features each contribute marginal gains, combining to deliver fantastic overall fuel and carbon efficiency, and very low VECTO scores setting a new benchmark for transport efficiency.
Vehicles are available with both PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines and in different cab variations. A full range of fuel-efficiency features come as standard, including the DAF Digital Vision System and a full aerodynamic package with spoilers, cab collars and a special aerodynamic ‘bottom plate’ under the bumper designed to conduct air under the vehicle for optimal efficiency. Low rolling resistance tyres are also fitted, along with Predictive Cruise Control as standard and the powerful PACCAR MX engine brake.
Efficiency Champion vehicles also benefit from DAF’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) aimed at assisting drivers with a range of features including Advanced Emergency Braking System, Drive-off Assist, DAF Side & Turn Assist, Speed Limit Recognition and Lane Departure Warning System.
“Our Efficiency Champion models serve as a reminder that marginal gains really can add up to deliver impressive overall results – in this case, outstanding economy,” said DAF Trucks Marketing Manager, Phil Moon, “For specific longer-distance applications, the Efficiency Champion can be a real game-changer, as evidenced by our XF 450 in independent fuel consumption tests in Germany. The good news for operators,” he said, “is that the Efficiency Champion models can be specified across our XD, XF, XG and XG+ ranges.”
