PD Ports has been honoured by industry experts at the prestigious International Bulk Journal Awards, with its Teesport Bulks Terminal named Best Dry Bulk Port, one of the top awards of the evening.

The award recognised the level of innovation and investment in people, equipment and infrastructure at Teesport Bulk Terminal in recent years, earning it a global reputation for the safe, efficient and sustainable handling of dry bulk products.

Held this year in Antwerp, the annual International Bulk Journal Awards is the main event of the year for the maritime bulks industry and sees entries from ports and logistics providers from across the world.

In winning the Best Dry Bulk Port Award, PD Ports was up against strong competition from major ports elsewhere in the UK and in India, the United Arab Emirates and Canada.

More than a decade of strategic investment has transformed the Teesport Bulks Terminal into a world-leading port operation, with 300,000 sq ft of covered warehousing, 890m of deep water quay, a dedicated bulk rail freight terminal and in-house bulk transport service.

Teesport Bulk Terminal handles millions of tonnes of dry bulk products each year – including agribulks, aggregates, biomass, fertiliser and construction materials – as well as project cargo, metals and forest products.

An £8.6m investment in two electric, rail-mounted Liebherr cranes in 2023 saw bulk handling capacities jump from 100 to 140 tonnes in a single lift and, with another crane on order, we continue to offer an environmentally conscious and efficient solution for loading and discharging a variety of bulk commodities.

Coupled with our investment in purpose-built bulk hoppers, we are driving developments and innovations that result in increased productivity for customers.

Further investment in technology has optimised loading and discharging procedures, including automated weighbridge systems and an integrated terminal operating system, TBA CommTrac.

Grant Honzik, Business Unit Director – Bulks, at PD Ports, said: “We are proud to receive this award against tough competition. It is testament to our commitment to excellence, efficiency and innovation in the handling of dry bulk cargo and to the hard work of our team, whose skills and unwavering commitment allow us to achieve the highest standards in all operations.

“We are constantly investing in our bulks platform to support the efficient, effective and safe movement of cargo. Our experience and dedication to providing our customers with innovative and tailored services has been built up over a number of years, handling millions of tonnes of products and earning a reputation as one of the UK’s safest and most trusted port operators.”
