Aberdeen-based general haulier, Dyce Carriers Limited, has taken delivery of two new 44 tonne Renault Trucks’ Range T460 6×2 midlift tractor units, the first to join the company’s 68-strong DAF, Volvo, Mercedes and Scania dominated fleet over 7.5 tonnes. The Range Ts, which are additions to Dyce Carriers’ fleet, will be used for trunking to the company’s central Scotland depot in Cowdenbeath, pulling oil and gas trailers. The vehicles are on a two year contract hire through BRS Ltd which includes road tax and tyres with servicing through local Renault Trucks’ approved dealer Alex Aiken and Son, Aberdeen.

All Dyce Carriers’ trucks are given names with local historical or company significance, and in keeping with this tradition, the Range Ts have been named “Blackwatch”, after Scotland’s famous Royal Highland regiment, and “Slains Castle” on the Aberdeenshire coast, which is said to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula castle.

Owner Jason Moir explains why he opted for Renault Trucks: “Our business is doing really well both in Scotland, Poole and beyond. Fuel economy is always a key factor for Dyce Carriers and we knew that the new Range T had been specifically designed to deliver fuel savings. It’s early days, but initial figures are very promising. We are also taking full advantage of Renault Truck’s Fuel Eco package that includes Optifleet telematics system. This allows us to monitor both the vehicles and drivers in real time in order to control our main areas of expenditure.”

Jason continues: “BRS Ltd offered us a highly competitive deal that included tyres, which for us is a significant cost. Keeping our drivers happy is essential, too, as they are at the frontline of our business. I’m delighted to say that the new Renaults have gone down very well with our drivers and they are very happy with their new trucks. Feedback from our depots has also been very favourable so all-in-all I am extremely pleased that we made the switch.”

Dyce Carriers Ltd is a family owned and run business established in 1973 by David and Jean Moir with a very humble Morris Minor Van. It has since grown into a company that boasts three depots in Scotland (Aberdeen, Cowdenbeath and a new one in Ivergordon in the Highlands) as well as one in Poole. Its Head Office is in Aberdeen and Dyce Carriers services the many oil and gas service providers in the area. Through its working relationship with LV Shipping, Dyce Carriers offers an overnight service between Middlesborough and Aberdeen as well as opening up to worldwide cargo. The company’s depot in Poole, Dorset was set up in 1996 to service the BP Wytchfarm facility and offers the same services as those supplied by Aberdeen and Cowdenbeath.
