TIP Group has been awarded the contract to replace the existing trailer fleet of the UK’s leading underlay and flooring accessories supplier, Interfloor.
A total of 56 new trailers have been supplied to Interfloor by TIP as part of a comprehensive long-term hire arrangement, incorporating operating lease, maintenance, repair, tyre management and access to TIP’s telematics system, TIP Insight, the latter including BrakePlus electronic braking performance monitoring system.
The new assets joining the Interfloor fleet to replace existing units comprise fifty 13.6-metre tri-axle curtainsiders, four single axle, ‘urban’ 9-metre curtainsiders and two tri-axle curtainsiders with more of a standard specification.
54 of the trailers have been fitted with a bespoke sliding post system to meet Interfloor’s operational requirements. Essentially the system will provide load retention for rolls of underlay but will also accommodate general palletised goods on other journeys, effectively improving payload efficiencies. The smaller trailers are specified with ‘positive steering’ capability for precise control in urban environments. All trailers are manufactured by TIP’s longstanding supplier and leading trailer manufacturer, SDC.
The trailers will be transporting rolls of flooring underlay across the country for the market leading supplier of high quality underlay that is used to fulfill both residential and contract flooring needs.
All trailers are fitted with TIP Insight, TIP’s telematics-based digital and connected services solution, incorporating BrakePlus, TIP’s EBPMS. In addition to benefitting from TIP Insight’s track and trace functionality, enabling its fleet team to monitor trailer movements, inclusion of BrakePlus will boost efficiency by reducing the need for regular physical roller brake tests throughout the year.
Regular servicing of the trailers will take place at Interfloor’s site in Haslingden, Lancashire, via one of TIP’s mobile service units, with MOT preparation and testing being carried out at TIP Nelson, located just 14 miles across East Lancashire. Any ‘running repairs’ and ‘defects’ that are needed will also be provided by TIP’s mobile mechanic, who will be dedicated to the onsite ‘clinic’ for two to three hours each day.
The ‘all-inclusive’ leasing package enables Interfloor to enjoy predictable ongoing fleet associated costs via a single contract and monthly payment.
Part of the overall solution provided by TIP means that a service level agreement is in place to ensure ongoing performance by TIP is as required and that key performance indicators are met. Regular meetings between TIP operations staff and Interfloor’s fleet team aim to keep such aspects of the relationship in check.
Stephen Treanor, Transport Manager at Interfloor, commented, “We are excited to partner with TIP Group as we upgrade our fleet to improve efficiency and meet the growing demands of our business. TIP’s location and their commitment to quality and innovation make them an ideal partner, ensuring we can continue to deliver the highest level of service to our customers. This collaboration reflects our focus on building strong local partnerships that enhance our operational performance.”
Concerning the detailed discussions, Stephen added “Having been with our current trailer provider for over 20 years, the tender process was always going to be a tremendous challenge for any new potential supplier to us. During the tender, however, TIP quickly stood out with their desire, knowledge and future plans which aligned with Interfloor’s vision for a long-term partnership to enhance our transport operation and customer service. Discussions were led by Tom Moore for TIP, who showed determination and great expertise to demonstrate what Interfloor will gain throughout the agreement. We look forward to moving forward in partnership with TIP.”
Tom Moore, Regional Sales Manager at TIP, commented, “We are absolutely delighted that Interfloor has chosen TIP to be its trailer supply partner. A series of detailed discussions have taken place between the two businesses over a period of time in order to ensure that not only has the most appropriate specification of trailer been supplied but that the best solution package overall has been provided in accordance with Interfloor’s needs. We are confident that we have delivered in both respects and look forward to a successful ongoing relationship.”
