Yorkshire’s Nostrop Storage has taken delivery of a Volvo FH Aero 500 6×2 tractor unit, to bolster its busy general haulage operations.
Supplied by Jason Robinson, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the vehicle marks the first time the customer has opted to acquire a brand-new truck, with Nostrop Storage eager to make the most of the asset’s factory-fresh performance and reliability.
Josh Smith, Nostrop Storage’s Owner, says: “Investing in our first new Volvo marks a significant milestone for the business that reflects our commitment to enhancing our operational efficiency, sustainability and brand image.
“The decision to introduce the FH Aero into our fleet in particular was driven by a desire to bring a very reliable vehicle onboard, but also a model that can deliver the very best fuel economy on the market. Given our existing Volvos have performed admirably, we’ve no doubts this new FH Aero will exceed on both of those fronts.”
The FH Aero – liveried in Nostrop Storage’s sleek black and green colours, paired with Dura-Bright alloys – delivers substantial energy consumption and emission reductions of up to five per cent through a refined aerodynamic design, with the model’s cab 24 centimetres longer than that of the standard Volvo FH.
Additional efficiency gains are unlocked by deploying new technologies, most notably Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS). Replacing traditional exterior mirrors, CMS increases the driver’s field of view and, when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns. CMS also performs strongly in rainy and dark conditions, direct sunlight and even when driving in tunnels.
Nostrop Storage’s new truck is powered by a Euro-6 compliant D13TC Step E engine which leverages turbo compound technology to deliver 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,800 Nm. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield further sustainability benefits.
To maximise driver comfort, the company has also opted for a spacious Globetrotter XL cab fitted with added extras including leather upholstery, a microwave and additional cab storage.
“Volvo is my favourite truck brand by far, with its comfort and driving performance superseding any other make I’ve driven to date,” adds Smith. “We’re excited to see how well the new FH Aero performs in the years ahead.”
The new acquisition is backed by a Volvo Gold Contract including preventive maintenance and repairs to guarantee Nostrop Storage complete peace of mind, as well as a comprehensive and personal service.
Nostrop Storage offers transport services from its Leeds headquarters, with its fleet operating across the UK. The new FH Aero is expected to clock up to 120,000 km annually, completing general haulage work Monday through Friday.
