A CO2e saving of more than 2.2 Million KGs is the big green dividend that has been generated over the past four years by fierce competition among Hargreaves Logistics’ drivers for the company’s prestigious ‘Driver of the Year’ award.

The format that has succeeded in harnessing the enthusiasm of more than 140 drivers is based on performance assessments, which are carried out under a monthly bonus-related scheme to determine the finalists.

The ultimate ‘Driver of the Year’ earns his title – together with a £500 cheque and 12-months bragging rights – in a series of practical tests of skill and knowledge, which were held this year at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground in Leicestershire.

Hargreaves’ fuel champion programme records that fuel consumption has reduced by 8.5% over the four years during which drivers have been operating under the Awards ‘regime.

This represents a company-wide saving of 850,000 Liters (186,974 Gallons) and – equally importantly – the major CO2e saving.

In addition, the company has also identified significant benefits in other key areas, including:-

  • easier recruitment
  • improved customer service
  • reduced maintenance costs through better defect reporting
  • enhanced corporate image
  • improved compliance
  • incident and accident reduction

Driver of the Year 2016

The 2016 reprise of the Awards attracted sponsorship from 12 organisations**, including local and national specialist suppliers as well as major industry names. A capacity audience representing sponsors, customers, supporters and Hargreaves staff packed the Proving Ground to enjoy a range of activities and see the finalists test their skills and knowledge in the defect reporting and maneuvering competition that determined this year’s winners.
