Following an impromptu sleepover in the cab of a Range T at Truckfest, Managing Director of Burnley-based Express Freight Solutions Group (EFS), Mark Jones, was so impressed with the truck’s comfort that he has introduced a new incentive involving Renault trucks as a way of attracting, rewarding and retaining the best drivers.
Two new 44-tonne Range T460 6×2 tractor units, supplied by Renault Trucks’ approved dealer, JDS Truck & Van Blackburn, have joined EFS’ fleet and, as well as being the company’s first-ever Renault Trucks, they are also its first-ever new vehicles.
Although the 95-strong EFS fleet has been dominated by a competitor manufacturer for 30 years, as Mark Jones explains, a great night’s sleep made the difference: “I was actually sleeping in a tent at Truckfest, so when a member of the Renault Trucks team said I could spend the night in the cab of a Range T, I jumped at the chance! Obviously it’s a big step up from a tent, but I couldn’t believe how comfortable it was; it was better than my own bed at home! Seriously though, I was so impressed by the Range T and the overall package on offer that I decided to bite the bullet and buy my first-ever Renault trucks.”
Mark continues: “My business is expanding and I’ve recently bought new companies, CS Brunt Freight Services Ltd., Red Scar Tyres Ltd. and Horizon Distribution to expand our customer base and services provided. With an industry-wide shortage of drivers, it’s essential that I work hard to attract and retain the best. I know that drivers are getting pickier in terms of what vehicles they want to drive, but my boys have been bowled over by the new Range Ts which are currently being used for pallet and chilled distribution. That’s why I’m introducing a reward system for drivers that stay with us for a certain period of time and consistently do a good job – I will start buying new Range Ts for them to drive.”
Will Sheffield, JDS Trucks, comments on the deal: “I’m delighted that EFS Group chose Renault Trucks as the first new vehicles on their fleet. We listened to their requirements, so it’s great to hear that the quality and comfort of the Range T can help to provide a solution to the shortage of drivers which is a very real challenge facing many operators. We look forward to working with EFS in the future.”
