St Austell Brewery has renewed its UK distribution contract with XPO Logistics. This will provide the brewer of specialist ales with a flexible supply chain platform to expand the nationwide delivery of its cask and bottled beers.
St Austell Brewery was founded in 1851 and is still family owned. The company employs 1,000 people, making it one of the largest employers in Cornwall; it also owns over 160 pubs and supplies over 2,500 inns and hotels in Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Its brands, including Tribute beer and Korev lager, are well known and available throughout the UK with increasing distribution overseas.
XPO Logistics’ high service levels, national network and supply chain expertise are instrumental in supporting the brewery’s growth plans. Demand for high-quality beverages is growing in the UK, increasing the retail opportunity for St Austell Brewery.
From its Avonmouth facility, XPO Logistics transports product from St Austell Brewery’s manufacturing site and Cornish distribution centre in St Columb, to consolidation depots and regional distribution centres across the country. Daily deliveries are supported with a flexible solution that increases the supply of transport to accommodate peaks in demand.
Kevin Andrews, St Austell Brewery Supply Chain Manager, said: “XPO Logistics has established a strong platform to provide an excellent cross-dock facility to underpin the distribution of St Austell products to customers both locally and nationwide. The company’s specialist knowledge and extensive UK network provide us with solutions that allow us to pursue national growth opportunities.”
To increase brand awareness, XPO Logistics is also working closely with St Austell Brewery to develop and install a customised livery across a range of its curtain-sided delivery vehicles.
