Compact crane and lifting equipment specialists GGR Group have achieved Gold status in the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) run by Transport for London.

GGR Group is Europe’s leading supplier of vacuum handling equipment, compact pick and carry cranes, UNIC mini spider cranes and restricted access lifting machinery for sale and hire, along with a variety of complementary products and services.

Leading the way on health and safety is a core priority for GGR Group which is proud to announce it was awarded FORS Gold status for its Long Crendon depot this week.  FORS is an accreditation scheme that aims to improve fleet activity in London and throughout the UK. The accreditation is emerging as a contractual prerequisite for many firms in the construction industry.

Theo de Pencier, Chief Executive of the Freight Transport Association (FTA) says of the scheme:

The FORS process of accreditation and continuous improvements makes sound business sense, and gives customers peace of mind that the organisations they contract with take safety and compliance seriously. The added benefit of accident reduction and public recognition of high standards means the potential to stand out from others when competing for new business.

GGR Group underwent a rigorous assessment followed by theoretical and practical driver training as well as attendance at the FORS workshops. GGR invested in front and rear cameras and side-scan systems for its fleet, helping drivers to improve safety. In June 2013 GGR’s Long Crendon fleet, currently comprising of 10 vehicles, passed the FORS Bronze assessment first time; the process was a very positive one and after receiving guidance and feedback from the FORS team, achieved Silver accreditation in March 2014.

GGR Group now joins the ranks of the prestigious Gold standard accreditation alongside just 40 other companies including: Veolia, J Murphy and Sons, Travis Perkins & John Lewis. The criteria for Gold standard accreditation challenges fleet operators to demonstrate meaningful improvements in safety, environmental impact and efficiency, measured against the following performance indicators:

  • Total fuel usage and by distances travelled;
  • Transport related CO2 output and by distance travelled;
  • Total incident and collision data and costs involving personal injury, vehicle or property damage;
  • Total transport related fines and charges.

Since gaining FORS accreditation in 2013, GGR Group has increased its vehicle fleet by 33% with a total of 24 vehicles providing nationwide delivery for customers.

GGR Group Managing Director, Gill Riley commented:

This is an excellent achievement, to progress from Bronze to Silver and now to Gold in only 18 months highlights GGR’s commitment to improving safety on the roads.

Working with FORS means we’ve been able to identify best practices and improve our growing, successful fleet.
