Freight forwarding and logistics company DSV understands the importance of operational excellence and seven people from across the three DSV divisions have just completed an intensive health and safety course accredited by the Institute of Occupational Health & Safety (IOSH).
The four day course, Managing Safely, covered all aspects of health and safety and included a final exam. Each participant also had to complete a written assignment back at their workplace.
Victoria Beale, General Manager – SHEQ, says DSV is committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of managing health and safety.
Kirsten Soendergaard, a DSV Projects colleague from Denmark, also attended the course to gain a better understanding of UK health and safety.
Lars Sander, based at Heathrow, says: “The course has given me the tools to manage shipping projects from a health and safety perspective, but more importantly, it has given me the insight to analyse and challenge documentation received by subcontractors.”
Joy Cupples, from DSV Road in Tamworth, who received the highest pass rate, says the course was very useful. “It is proving extremely beneficial in my day to day work as I have already been able to further develop some of the principles learnt within the scope of my normal routine occupation.”
Others who passed the course, which was delivered by Lawrence Webb of LWS Associates, are: Tim Eskesen and Daniel Becci from Aberdeen and Stuart Todd, Manchester, all from the Project Division, and Terry Linden from DSV Solutions.
DSV also regularly runs compulsory Health & Safety courses for managers. The course is based on the IOSH Managing Safely Course but has been designed especially to focus on the key health and safety issues that effect DSV.
